ARMOR : FAIRGROUND BARD
Circa 1932
Etched engraving
73-33-31
Bequeathed by Laure Moulin in 1975
H. 28,2 cm - L. 21,7 cm
In 1930, Jean Moulin is appointed sub-prefect of Châteaulin. Through Max Jacob and Saint-Pol-Roux, he discovers the poetry of Tristan Corbière, one of the « accursed poets » of Verlaine, then forgotten. A poem dedicated to the pardon of Saint-Anne-la Palud, la Rapsode foraine, touches him in particular, in the same way as the pardon itself which he attends. He dedicates four of the eight plates to him, and this is one of them, which he engraves to illustrate a collection of Corbière’s poems, "Armor". All the boards will be exhibited at the Salon d'Automne at the Grand Palais in Paris at the end of the year and will be praised by critics.
