Allegory for peace of 1763
circa 1763
Black and red chalk, picked out with pen and brown ink on paper
873-2-28
Bequeathed by Jean Marie de Silguy in 1864
H. 24,5 cm - L. 38 cm
Peace in 1763 put an end to the Seven Year War: Louis XV in the centre is reconciled with his enemies, on either side of an altar dominated by the allegorical figure of Peace. They are escorted by their armies. The figures of la Renommée, Bellona and Love are visible. This was proposed as a mural to be placed above a monumental gate, but it is not known if this actually happened.
