This drawing was intended to illustrate a plate for the “Théâtre de la Passion de notre Seigneur Jésus Christ” that Huret himself published in 1664, aimed at « people who were devout and curious about the art of portraiture ». He was one of the best-known engravers of his time – five hundred works – ranging from portraits to religious subjects through illustrations for philosophy or theology theses. His drawings are very rare.
