A group of angels in glory or Angels pointing out the Magi’s star
circa 1555
Pen and brown ink, brown wash, with white highlights on beige paper
873-2-71
Bequeathed by Jean Marie de Silguy in 1864
H. 27 cm - L. 38,5 cm
It is difficult to understand the theme of this drawing: two groups of angels part the clouds to reveal a star. This is actually the upper part of a large piece of work that has been cut into two. The lower part (Musée du Louvre) represents an Adoration of the Magi. The idea for this theme is taken from the Chapelle de Guise, the decoration of which is attributed to Primaticcio. The destination of this important work is unfortunately unknown.
