Landscape at Le Pouldu
Circa 1892
Gouache on paper
84-13
Acquired through the art trade in Paris in 1984 with the help of the French state and the Region of Brittany (FRAM)
H. 26 cm - L. 38,5 cm
This gouache, one of the artist’s masterpieces, is confusing to the point of being strange. From the first floor window of a house in the village of Lanmarc’h, Filiger has huge fields sloping gently down to the sea. Between Kerrou beach on the right, and Bellangenet beach on the left, a rocky promontory juts out into the sea. At its end a customs officer’s house has been built. To the left, a large tree, deformed by westerly winds, rises from the shrubbery.
