Émile Jourdan remains in Pont-Aven after the group disperse.  He continues alone with his studies in the spirit of Synthetism.  His range of colours becomes more and more strident.  He has dedicated several canvases to the subject of the collection of seaweed tossed ashore by storms.  In this picture, the scene takes place at the foot of the Brigneau semaphore in Moëlan-sur-Mer, where he goes regularly.
