GOULPHAR BELLE-ÎLE
1895
Oil on canvas
D. 98-1-1
Allocated in 1998 by the Musée d’Orsay
H. 92 cm - L. 73 cm
After staying in Pont-Aven and becoming one of Gauguin’s close friends in 1888, Moret decides, with the invention of Synthetism, to settle in the small port of Doëlan. From there, he paints along the coastline from Le Pouldu to Trévignon. He often stays on the Iles de Groix and Belle-Île where he paints the high cliffs. This work shows how he has evolved: the composition is very bold with its oblique line; he paints in an « Impressionist » style.
