Eugène Boudin goes to Brittany in1855 to try out new ideas and to find a theme for his first painting to send to the Salon, and settles in Quimper.  He painted this view of the town from the quayside at « Cap Horn ».  The treatment of the foliage is quite traditional, but the painter is innovative with the arabesque leading to the cathedral, and by the reflections and movements in the sky.  The collector probably met the young painter and it is possible that he commissioned this view of the town.
